ADVOCACY

Darfur

ASK THE WHITE HOUSE TO TAKE ACTION ON DARFUR--NOW
The Obama administration has the unique opportunity to end the killing in Darfur and recommit to peace in Southern Sudan. As the White House sets its foreign policy, it can exercise moral leadership in a robust and unprecedented fashion.

President Obama has named a full-time special envoy to the region, but Darfur must be made a US policy priority. Sudan's expulsion of 13 humanitarian organizations from the country in March of 2008 has left millions of Darfuri civilians at risk for famine, disease, and death, and driven home the need for immediate action.

Call on President Obama and Special Envoy to Sudan Scott Gration to continue to push for a resolution in Darfur:

Burma

DEMAND FREEDOM FOR BURMESE POLITICAL PRISONERS
As Burma moves towards holding national elections in 2010, it is imperative that the country's estimated 2,100 political prisoners are released in time to participate in the democratic process. Included among the imprisoned is Nobel Peace Prize Laureate and democratic leader Aung San Suu Kyi, who has been under house arrest for 13 of the last 18 years, and was recently sentenced to another year and half in detention.

Put pressure on Asian leaders to push for the immediate release of all Burmese political prisoners by sending them a letter.
