Not On Our Watch Donates $1Million to Emergency Medical Efforts in Haiti

In the wake of Tuesday’s devastating earthquake in Haiti, Not On Our Watch has directed $1 million (USD) in emergency response funds to provide medical services for victims of the disaster. The beneficiary of the grant, Partners In Health (PIH), presently has relief efforts underway providing emergency medical care for the wounded, and is addressing the critical shortage of hospitals and care centers destroyed during the disaster.

 

The founders of Not On Our Watch released the following statement: “The people of Haiti are in desperate need of help. Our organization, Not On Our Watch, will do whatever it can and we know the international community will as well."

Report: "Rescuing the Peace in Southern Sudan"

"Major conflict could return to southern Sudan unless there is urgent international action to save the peace agreement that ended one of Africa’s longest and deadliest wars, ten aid agencies warned today.

 

In a new report “Rescuing the Peace in Southern Sudan” – released ahead of the fifth anniversary of the signing of the peace agreement between the Sudanese government and the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement – the agencies said a lethal cocktail of rising violence, chronic poverty and political tensions has left the peace deal on the brink of collapse."

Tsvangirai Puts Heat on Mugabe as EU Retains Sanctions

"Morgan Tsvangirai, the prime minister of Zimbabwe, took a new tough stance against President Robert Mugabe yesterday, warning: 'You misjudge me at your peril.' Tsvangirai said he would consult the public on whether the fraught unity government was still tenable.

 

His hard line came as the first European Union delegation to visit Zimbabwe since 2002 said that targeted sanctions would not be lifted until the political rivals had resolved their differences."
