Board Member George Clooney to Present Inaugural Aurora Prize Today in Armenia

Board members George Clooney and John Prendergast are in Yerevan, Armenia today, where Clooney will present the inaugural Aurora Prize, honoring an individual who puts her- or himself at risk to enable others to survive. The board members are likewise commemorating the anniversary of the Armenian Genocide.

Board Member John Prendergast Testifying and Speaking on South Sudan and Sudan

Next week, board member John Prendergast will testify before the House Subcommittee on Africa, Global Health, Global Human Rights, and International Organizations as part of the "South Sudan's Prospects for Peace and Security" Hearing; he'll likewise speak at "A New Approach to Sudan", a program covering the Obama administration's chance to make progress in Sudan.

Award Honors Former Burmese Political Prisoner

"A former Burmese political prisoner and current head of an exiled prisoner advocacy group has been named one of four people to receive a top international human rights award.

 

Bo Kyi, head of the Thailand-based Assistance Association for Political Prisoners - Burma (AAPP) was today awarded the Alison Des Forges Defender Award for Extraordinary Activism by Human Rights Watch (HRW)."
